The ugly: Public health being put in the hands of private enterprise. Rather than book an appointment through the city, state, or federal government to get a new vaccine, I have to go through drugstore chains - which are happy to over-book and cancel, or send me texts which say the vaccine is not yet available, though I was able to book on their website weeks ago.

The bad: Using their website to re-book gets me the closest available options first, which means the nearest one, which is about two and a quarter miles away, is in New Jersey. Nothing against New Jersey. Just bad that this website is simply going by the simplest, most technical metric of distance possible, disregarding state lines and major rivers.

I also got my x-rays back, and my knees don't show any signs of osteoarthritis, erosions, or joint effusion, so whatever the issue is, it's probably something with the soft tissue.

The good: Running two miles in 30 minutes on the treadmill. It amazed me I was able to do that. Still does, a bit. Even with the knees I've currently got. When I started doing gym cardio a few months ago I wasn't capable of that, and now I am. It's a good feeling to look at that kind of progress.

The great: I met with some the people who'd reached out to me to take a look at the scope of the job, go over initial plans and ideas, set out goals and timetables, and agree on a start date and working days and salary. I'll be getting paid the going market rate for this kind of work which works out to more than my age per hour - something that hasn't happened in a while and is really nice. I've got a little while before it starts, which gives me time to get things in order, reach out to the other people and let them know these developments, and enjoy the unstructured time in anticipation of it coming to an end soon.

I'm thinking of cleaning out some stuff from my apartment and mainlining the Interview with the Vampire show and the first six Mission Impossible movies.
