My parents have a fairly capable tower fan that also works as an air filter/purifier. I'm all for that kind of efficient technology, especially because it doesn't take up a lot of space. What I'm not for is that it makes use of some kind of app - when I was over earlier, they were reviewing the manual to check its capabilities, and it mentioned an app to do things like check on its ongoing performance.

They offered to buy me one, but I don't know if I'll say yes. In part because the fans I have work fine, and in part because a battery-powered remote control is about my limit.
