Fact: my phone incurred water damage and needs to be replaced.
Fact: this damage is to the physical hardware that makes up the circuits and battery and also to the SIM card, and while popping out the SIM card and putting it back got my phone to recognize it again, the whole system is in a delicately balanced state and no longer fully stable and might stop working tomorrow or it could keep going fine for several months without any way to know.
Fact: I managed to back up all my data this morning so none of my photos or voice memos are disappearing on me.
Fact: the iPhone model I'm using is no longer manufactured.
Fact: according to the woman at the Apple Store, there's a warehouse out there with a bunch of extra ones and I can order one for about $275, rounding up, that would arrive in New York in about a week.
Fact: I like to think it's in the Midwest somewhere.
Fact: my phone carrier might be able to replace my phone for much less than that.
Fact: it would probably be a completely different model.
Fact: I can still buy the same design iPhone case off Threadless for whatever model iPhone I'll wind up getting, creating some level of continuity between phones, which honestly helps a lot.
Fact: as I went into the Apple Store to talk to a real person face-to-face earlier today, so will I go into a local Spectrum store to do the same there as well.
Fact: I'll do it tomorrow or this weekend because I'm not feeling up to another major adult conversation about phones today.
